Capcom says Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than one million copies worldwide on its first day. The game launched September 4 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The figure comes directly from Capcom’s September 7 investor release. It is a sales milestone, rather than a player-count or shipment figure.

A return after more than 20 years

Way of the Sword is the first new Onimusha title in more than two decades. It follows Miyamoto Musashi through a dark version of Edo-era Kyoto, returning the series to sword-focused action after a long absence.

Capcom also says the launch pushed total sales for the Onimusha series above ten million units. That gives the new release an unusually clear result: it expanded the audience for a series that had spent years largely represented by remasters and older entries.

Where it is available

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The one-million mark does not tell us how sales were divided among those platforms, and Capcom has not attached a longer-term forecast to this announcement. It does show that the series’ return found a sizable audience immediately. The more useful next signal will be whether sales continue after the launch window and whether Capcom treats Onimusha as an active series again.
